How do we move menopause from whispered discomfort to confident conversation - especially in the workplace?

In this episode of Women of a Certain Stage, I’m joined by the brilliant Morna Dason-Barber, People Director at the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), whose personal and professional journey into menopause coaching offers a masterclass in resilience, advocacy, and leadership.
From Silent Struggle to Strategic Support
Like many women, Morna experienced intense perimenopausal symptoms, from exhaustion to heart palpitations, all while leading a demanding career.
What changed everything?
She gained access to structured, evidence-based coaching, which not only improved her health but also completely transformed her perspective on menopause.
So much so, she trained to become and she’s now using that training inside one of the UK’s most respected institutions.
Why Menopause Coaching in the Workplace Matters
Morna’s story proves this: menopause coaching isn’t just personal, it's organisatoinal.
Through informal word-of-mouth networks and formal awareness initiatives, she’s championed a shift in workplace culture that:
Increases trust and psychological safety
Boosts productivity and retention
Normalises conversations around fertility, menstruation, and menopause
Creates an inclusive environment for everyone to engage — men and women alike
This is the kind of culture change that doesn’t require big budgets; just the right training, framework, and leadership.
Coaching + Career: Yes, You Can
Morna balances her full-time leadership role with a growing menopause coaching practice. Her experience reflects what many of our certified coaches discover: you can coach, support others, and build a business, without stepping away from your current role.
Coaching gave Morna a renewed sense of purpose. It’s also helped her colleagues feel seen, supported, and better equipped to manage health transitions.
The Menopause Plan in Action
Morna credits her progress to the Menopause Plan (my signature framework) designed to simplify how women understand and manage their menopause journey. With structured guidance, clients often go from depleted to thriving in as little as 7–8 weeks.
Her transformation is a reminder that the right support system, delivered with expertise, empathy, and credibility, creates lasting change.
From Surviving to Thriving
Outside of work, Morna is a mother of two, a supporter of the Alzheimer’s Society, a pianist, and a runner.
Her philosophy is about balance without burnout: making healthy choices, staying active, and indulging now and then.
She reminds us that self- post-menopause isn’t selfish, it’s essential.
